Portrait of a Designer
Betsey DeLoache, a native of Lexington, Massachusetts, has lived in several other states including Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, South Carolina, Virginia, Vermont, and South Dakota, moving back to South Carolina in February 2018. Her formal education emphasized the liberal arts and she graduated with a degree in Sociology from Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
Betsey is a cross-stitch designer as well as an artist. Betsey’s design studio began as an easel-table in her living room and eventually developed into a retail design and custom framing business, in 1982, called Red Bird Studio in Cheraw, SC. Betsey is a Certified Picture Framer (CPF), receiving her certification in 1988, retired in 2018.
During the time Betsey was running her retail business in Cheraw she met an author, Linda Timberlake, who in 1987, asked her to illustrate a children’s book about the Civil War, Barney's Blessing. In 1989 Linda asked Betsey to illustrate Now Let Dixie Reign: A Poetic Tribute to Jefferson Davis, both currently available at Red Bird Studio.
Reopening Red Bird Studio in 2004 in Pierre, South Dakota, gave Betsey a place to devote to her framing, artwork, writing, and designing. Retired from framing and retail closed Feb 2018.
Red Bird Studio is now at Edisto Island, SC.
Betsey works as an artist, speaker, and author.
She has also reintroduced the original cross-stitch designs from the 1980's still stitching after all these years...
